About

Francene J. Levinson was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. where she received her BA 1966 and MA Art Ed 1969 at Brooklyn College, NY. Her abstract paintings were influenced by her professor Ad Reinhardt and his artist contemporary, Mark Rothko. Her computer drawing skills were acquired at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her career includes 15 years as an award-winning art teacher in New York and Florida.

A great part of her art career was devoted to abstract modular paper sculpture. Her modular paper sculptures, influenced by Chinese Immigrants from the Golden Venture Ship in 1993, have been juried into many national gallery and museum exhibitions. Francene’s sculptures have earned many first place and best in show awards. In addition, she was honored with “The Mastermind Art Grant” for South Florida 2010. Significantly, she was also awarded First Place – Boca Raton Museum of Art, 2010 - Biennial, in Boca Raton, FL. See her sculpture website at http://www.francenelevinson.com

Now, coming full circle back to her painting and computer skills, Francene creates original abstract digital paintings. The greatest influence on her digital art is derived from several art styles including abstract expressionism, the color field, op-art, and hard edge movements . Her digital paintings have been published in Woventale Press Literary Arts Magazine and Salann Magazine.

In 2021, she represented the USA, when the Art Dex International Competition awarded her digital painting 2th place among 88 countries.  She has exhibited her digital art at several galleries in Portland, Oregon and was represented by the Portland Art Museum’s RSG Gallery. In 2022 her digital painting was part of the Southampton Art Center, Southampton, NY exhibition, Techspressionism: Digital and Beyond." Francene enjoys pushing the digital art medium to its full potential.
